VETERANS

In Service to Our Veterans and Active Duty Military

As a political party founded largely by veterans, the Alliance Party believes we, as a nation, owe a tremendous debt to those who have pledged their very lives to our defense.

We begin by insisting on adequate compensation for our military personnel while on active duty, and adequate pensions, access to first-rate health care, job training and other transitional and support services after discharge. We believe we owe much to those of whom we have asked so much.

That's especially true of those veterans who have fallen on hard times. For some, the challenges of adjusting to civilian life after their service have, for many reasons, even left them without a home.

To address the problem, the Alliance has proposed a new, cost-effective and tightly-focused government program to provide our homeless veterans with life-saving housing and life-changing services. Our Homeless Veterans Plan could make a crucial difference in the lives of thousands of our most vulnerable veterans, and we ask you to support it and advocate for it.

But we also go beyond advocacy to endorse direct action by our fellow citizens in support of our veterans and active duty soldiers. One easy way for you to help is to join our Veterans Volunteer Initiative -- by pledging just a little of your time you can do a lot to make life just a little easier for just a few of our most dedicated citizens.

There are many other ways for you to serve those who have served us, and we encourage you to take every opportunity to do so. For our part, we intend to continue developing ways of organizing our fellow Americans to more fully support our veterans and active duty soldiers, sailors and airmen. We hope you will join us in our efforts, and we are counting on you to suggest further ways each of us -- and all of us -- can do more.
